The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the redevelopment of railway stations under the Indian Railway’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The initiative is a part of the government’s efforts to modernize railway infrastructure across the country, with a focus on comfort, cleanliness, and connectivity. Among these, 19 railway stations in Uttar Pradesh were also renovated, marking a significant step towards the modernization of Indian Railways and enhancement of passenger amenities. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath participated in the event virtually from Lucknow.
After praying at the Karni Mata temple in Deshnok, around 30 km away from Bikaner and nearly 200 km from the International Border with Pakistan, PM Modi inaugurated the redeveloped Deshnoke railway station and virtually inaugurated 102 other stations. Temple authorities welcomed him with a replica of the Karni Mata temple, and he also offered ‘prasad’ and a donation at the sanctum. This is his first visit to Rajasthan after India’s attack on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7.
Modi mentioned the inauguration and foundation stone-laying of development projects worth ₹26,000 crore; he underscored their importance in advancing the country’s growth. Of the 103 stations redeveloped at a cost of over Rs 1,100 crore, 19 are in Uttar Pradesh, 18 in Gujarat, 15 in Maharashtra, 9 in Tamil Nadu, 8 in Rajasthan, 6 in Madhya Pradesh, 5 each in Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, 3 each in Jharkhand, Telangana and West Bengal, 2 each in Bihar and Kerala, and 1 each in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Puducherry.
Amrit Bharat Scheme
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a countrywide project aimed at revamping railway stations in a step-by-step manner. Each station is given a customized plan based on its specific needs, with improvements rolled out over time. The goal is to gradually elevate stations to modern standards while preserving their regional character.
