Security Concerns Rise in Pakistani-Administered Kashmir Following Recent Conflict
On April 22, 2025, some Pakistani and Pakistan-trained terrorists entered the Pahalgam district of Kashmir. They particularly targeted Hindu men and killed 26 Hindu tourists, including one local. In response to this, India struck back at Pakistan and destroyed their terrorist bases at nine locations and killed more than 100 terrorists. This operation was named ‘Operation Sindoor.’ India believes that Pakistan is responsible for the terrorist attacks and is providing shelters to terrorists from all over the world. However, Islamabad has denied any relation or motive behind the terrorist attack.
Both countries destroyed each other’s infrastructure and attacked with drones and military. But, for world peace, a ceasefire agreement was created for both countries. The governments of India and Pakistan have confirmed the ceasefire and no one will attack now. The Indian government has stated that any attack from Pakistan on India will be considered a sign of war. Although Pakistan claims that about 31 people were killed and dozens of others were injured from the attacks by India, the Indian military has said that they attacked only the military bases of Pakistan and no civilians were harmed.
A New Security Doctrine Emerges in India
On May 12, two days after a ceasefire was announced, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi segmented a new doctrine in response to terrorist attacks. This theory states that any further terrorist attacks by Pakistan against India would be deemed “acts of war” and would call for suitable retaliation, which would include military action against the terrorists and the governments that are allegedly aiding them.
In the last 5 decades, what no one could do has been done by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. Before any terrorist attacks from Pakistan were responded to by engaging in diplomatic cooperation with the government it believes is backing such attacks. Modi has highlighted that India would no longer be restrained by the threat of “nuclear blackmail.”
Critically, this new doctrine implies that with each terrorist attack, New Delhi may feel compelled to deliver a military response—one that could be more serious in scale and intensity than previous instances. Furthermore, dismantling alleged terrorist camps does not guarantee protection against future attacks, calling into question the expectations of deterrence.
Pakistan Breaks Ceasefire
The Pakistani army has violated the ceasefire hours after agreeing to stop firing and military action by both countries. Sources said that a drone has been spotted near the LoC in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. Blackout reports have also been received from Barmer in Rajasthan and are awaited. According to Army sources cited by PTI, security forces responded swiftly, intercepting and engaging the UAVs shortly after they were spotted.
“A small number of suspected drones have been observed near Samba in Jammu and Kashmir. They are engaged,” said an Army official, assuring that the situation is under control and there is no need for public alarm. ANI also quoted Army sources saying, “Comparatively, a very small number of drones have come in the Samba sector. They are being engaged and there is nothing to be alarmed about.”
All We Know
The war between India and Pakistan started in 1947, at the time of the partition. Both countries want Kashmir and have fought 2 wars over it. This time when Pakistani terrorists attacked in India and killed 26 civilians, India did not sit quietly. PM Modi launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to this. The terrorist bases and air bases of Pakistan were destroyed in this mission. Islamabad has denied any role in the attack and called for a neutral investigation. After some attacks, both countries confirmed the ceasefire and India declared that any attack on India by Pakistan will be declared as an act of war. However, Pakistan broke the ceasefire but no one was hurt and peace has been established for some time at the border.
